How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows offer a number of incentives for homeowners in El Paso, one being increased energy efficiency. No matter if you’re researching online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re wanting better efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a bigger leak and the gas has been switched with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to discover if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to find out if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions causing the leak, it could make sense to start searching for replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is inhibited it can affect your heating and cooling expenses.
